The two foremen in our mind
Our mind and thoughts have an huge impact on how we feel and act. I posted an other article/story at the same time as this post goes online, to give you a brief look on how powerful our brain really can be.
|The story about how our thinking can influence us...|
I want to pick up where the story above ends. As we now know, the mind has a tremendous impact on our wellbeing. But the question now is how exactly can we control it? How can we make room for the positive and how to push the negative aside?
To be honest, you could write a whole book about this topic. There is so much to say and teach that it really is not possible to fit everything inside one little blog-post. But I want to give forward one principle, which I found very useful in my own daily practices.
The method or this way of thinking comes from the Book "The Magic of Thinking Big" by David J. Schwartz, which was written in 1959. A truly amazing book.
It goes as follows:
Our brain is a "thought factory" which produces countless thoughts throughout the day. And this factory if you will so is under the charge of two foremen. "Foremen Positive" who produces positive thoughts and "Foremen Negative" who's producing the negative ones.
Now as illustration a little example on how these two foremen work for you:
You wake up in the morning and you say, "man, I'm having a bad day, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed..."
The foremen negative instantly steps to the front of your mind with a megaphone turning around and making an anouncment to the million of factory workers. "Hey, Dario is having a bad day today, he woke up on the wrong side of the bed."All those factory workers under the formane negative are now starting to produce negative thoughts. Your mind instantly finds 100 more reasons why its a lousy day."I'm so dumb I missed my alarm", "Why do I even have to go to work?", "It's way to early in the morning."
The nagative just starts rouling and before you know it, your day is set for misery.
On the other hand, if you wake up in the morning and say:
"Oh! Today is going to be a wonderful day! The weather is amazing and I'm glad i have a job who provides for me and my family!"
Foremen Positive instantly steps to the front gets that megaphone and tells the Factory workers: "Listen Guys, Dario is having an amazing day, hes expecting some good things to happen today and I think its going to be a wonderful day! Lets get to work!"
All those factory workers now start to produce positive thoughts. They find a blessing in everything. "I'm so glad I have a job to go to.", "The weather is just amazing today!", "I'm so lucky to have a roof over my head.", "I'm blessed that I'm able to walk to the bus stop."and so it goes on and on and on for the whole day.
And that is how it works. There is no magic trick to all of that, it's simple as that.
The difference between successful and non successful people is exactly that. Successful people wake up expecting great things to happen. Where the non successful focus on why they don't have what they want and how miserable everything is.
And a Quote from Tony Robbins just undermines this statement even more:
Where focus goes, energy flows. - Tony Robbins
Meaning where your focus goes, your whole energy flows. If you focus on the positive your whole energy will go into that direction and produce positive thoughts. In our example the foremen positive who will be active and give you plenty of reason why your day will be an amazing one. On the other hand if you focus on the negative also your energy will be negative and you'll attract negative people and negative behaviour.
What we can take away from todays post is:
Try to wake up with a positive attitude in the morning and focus on the positive things in life. Remember where focus goes, energy flows. At the same time try to keep foremen negative as low as possible and don't let him get in control of your factory workers.
See the positive in everything and positivity will be given back to you. - Dario Meyer
The Post is Inspired by the Book "The Magic of Thinking Big" - David J. Schwartz written in 1958
The book is amazing and a must read if your into self-improfment and want to transform your thinking into the positive. I can definitely recommend it.
